Machine Type
1. Geared Machine
Geared Machine have been the most popular machine for the elevator application till gearless technology have not been dominant.
Still in many low budget apartments and personal bungalow geared traction machine are used due to its economic advantage.
2. Gearless Machine
Gearless Machine is the latest and efficient technology in elevator industry.
For high speed application and high rise buildings this gearless technology is very much suitable.
In this there is almost zero maintenance as there is less mechanical wear and tear than geared machine.
There is no reduction gear box used in this as the pulley is directly connected with the shaft of motor. No leakage of gear oil as there is no gearbox.
Position of Machine
1. With Machine Room
This is the conventional lift in which the Machine room is separately created above the lift hoist way to place the elevator machine and its controller.
The advantage is elevator machine and controller is kept in a safe place which is not easily approachable by the unauthorized personnel but safely approachable during maintenance purpose.
The construction cost for elevator hoist way increases as separately machine room is build for the elevator.
Elevation of the building gets affected due to the machine room elevator as machine room is constructed above the elevator hoist way.
2. Machine Room Less (MRL)
The advantage of MRL elevator is saving space.
Since there is no need room, it is a greater benefit to the structure and cost of the building. This allows the architect to have greater flexibility and convenience in design, and giving the designer more freedom, at the same time if canceling the room, for owners, the cost of building a MRL is lower than MR.
Some special places, which is inconvenient to set up elevator room, such as hotels, hotel affiliated buildings, and podiums.
